26. How Do I Keep My Email Recipients Secret?
Blind Carbon Copy
You know about directly addressing emails through the To column. Do you know Bcc – or
understand how it differs from Cc?
Cc (carbon copy). If you add a recipient's name to this box in an email, a copy is sent to that
recipient and their name is visible to others receiving/reading the message.
Bcc (blind carbon copy). The recipients are hidden. This allows you to secretly copy people into
your emails – or prevent others from seeing whom you’re distributing the email to. It retains
privacy. The downside is many people ignore or even block emails sent to them where their
name is in the Bcc field.
To show the Bcc field automatically in every email you create:
1. On the View menu, click Bcc Field.
